This standard sets out general requirements for the contents of advertising that are published, viewed or aired on locally generated media. It is also prescribes guidelines for several specific types of advertisements as follows: advertisements of specific class of goods or services; advertisements directed at specific categories of consumers; and advertisements in certain media. The standard also addresses the manner of presentation of advertisement. The standard applies to advertisers, advertising agencies, publishers, media and advertising contractors. The advertising of food, drugs and cosmetics and devices is not specifically covered by this standard; statutory control of the advertisement in all media of these products is exercised under the Food and Drugs Act, (Chapter 30.01) and its regulations, which provide fully for truthful presentations in a manner consistent with this standard. The advertising of pesticides and toxic chemicals is not covered by this standard as statutory control of the advertisement of these products is covered by the Pesticide and Toxic Chemical Act 1979.
