Scope of this Standard

This standard specifies minimum requirements for horizontal core hollow clay blocks. It specifies requirements for compressive strength, water absorption, number of cells, thicknesses of webs, shells and horizontal partitions, and permissible variations in overall dimensions. Also included are requirements for surface warpage, finish and marking. This standard applies to horizontal core hollow clay blocks of 100 mm to 150 mm nominal width. This standard does not apply to vertical core hollow clay blocks or to hollow blocks intended for use as paving blocks. NOTE 1 At the time of preparation of this standard only 100 mm wide horizontal core hollow clay blocks were normally available commercially; 150 mm wide horizontal core hollow clay blocks are available from manufacturers if specially requested. NOTE 2 Horizontal core hollow clay blocks are typically used in non-load bearing applications with the cells oriented horizontally.
